Goodbye Distractions, Hello Productivity!

by Joseph Kennedy

Entrepreneurs, as well as fighting to give life to your idea...

...win customers, and change the world, you’re also going to be facing daily battles with a demon that until now may not have seemed like such a hellish beast. From here on out, it’s You vs Distractions.

Notifications ding, websites get scrolled, colleagues babble in your ear, meetings are attended that could have been an email, easy side tasks fall into your path…

Whatever forms the distraction demons come in, you subconsciously welcome them so that you don’t have to focus on the difficult and most purposeful work at hand. If the distraction feels like work, we allow it to do its thing.

Beating the distraction demons

Sustainability Entrepreneur’s Founder, Daniel, used to be the Waste Manager at Newcastle University. During this time he had the idea for Warp It, his first large business. With a baby on the way and a full-time job, he had to learn to use his time wisely, fight distractions, and master productivity.

There are only 24 hours in a day, and if we spend about 25-30% of them sleeping, and another 30-40% at work and commuting, it doesn’t leave us with much left. Daniel learned that the hard way and had to use his evenings and annual leave to build and launch his business.

Learning to fight your distraction demons is not something that happens overnight, it’s a process that is improved upon. You have to first be aware of your distractions, then learn how to block them out, and finally how to use the distraction-free space to be productive.
