Mental health charity renovates therapy rooms with reused office furniture

A mental health charity has refurbished its therapy rooms with a range of old and unwanted office furniture donated from the Warp It redistribution system.

Glasgow-based charity, Healing for the Heart, offers counselling and spiritual healing to around 100 clients each week along with training and workshops in trauma and adverse childhood experience. It was given £3,000 worth of office furniture including a range of lockable filing cabinets, desks, pedestal drawers, and screen dividers for use in their private therapy rooms.

Shona Stirling, CEO at Healing for the Heart, said:

“The furniture donations have been really valuable to us as it helped us refurbish our therapy rooms making them even more functional and comfortable for our client work. Everything we received has been in pristine condition and the secure filing units, which came complete with keys, have been a fantastic resource as client confidentially is a key priority.”

The money saved through receiving the donated furniture has allowed the charity to redirect core funds into their main areas of work to help and encourage people, organisations, and communities to improve their mental and emotional health.

Shona explained:

“These generous donations have meant we could use our precious funds on delivering our core charity activities – providing support to help people strengthen their emotional health and wellbeing. Essentially, people are important and the Warp It service has meant we haven’t had to choose between helping people or buying office furniture!”

Healing for the Heart registered with the Warp It service in 2018 and the charity has increased the number of its therapy rooms from two to six and has seen client numbers rise significantly over this time.

“I always check Warp It first when we need something for our offices. The ease of using the system is excellent,” Shona explained, “we simply search for what we need and claim the items. Most of the furniture has come from Glasgow University, which has made the experience even easier for us as they are located nearby, and they have been incredibly helpful.”

Shona concluded:

“Reusing furniture makes sense to us and the benefits of using the Warp It service has been brilliant and allowed us to grow and thrive as a charity. The throw away culture that is so predominant in society doesn’t help our mental health and wellbeing, so reusing and recycling complements our ethos and values perfectly.”
