Warp It members are leading the reuse revolution

Hospitals, universities, councils, charities, and many other organisations are ditching the throwaway culture and embracing reuse thanks to Warp It.

By doing so, they’ve saved over £45 million since Warp It was established over 12 years ago.

It’s not just about savings. £6.7 million worth of donations have gone to charities, keeping valuable resources in circulation while supporting those in need. More than 6 million kg of waste has been diverted from landfill, and 20 million kg of CO2 has been saved.

The benefits don’t stop there. By saving 9,107 days of staff time, Warp It has made the redistribution of resources faster and more efficient.

It’s no surprise the platform boasts an 8.8/10 customer happiness rating, showing just how much organisations value the impact of reuse.

Almost anything can be reused

Any resource can be reused if it’s safe and legal to do so. From office furniture, stationery, medical equipment, and electrical goods to quirky gems like pianos, football tables, bleachers, yo-yo bicycles, a brandy bottle, and even a model brain – these are just some of the items that have been reused by Warp It members.

Supporting net zero and sustainability goals

Reuse also plays a key role in supporting the NHS’s broader net zero ambitions by cutting emissions linked to procurement and waste disposal. By keeping resources in circulation, Warp It helps reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing and disposal.

Sophie Underdown, Sustainability Programme Support Manager at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, said: “We think fitting out workspaces with second hand gems is a perfect way to save precious pennies while supporting our mission to drive down emissions and waste.” Read more.

Local authorities are also on board, with many using Warp It to manage budgets more efficiently while achieving green goals.

Councillor Tony Gurney, Cabinet Member for Economy and Climate Change, at North Ayrshire Council said: “If items across our services are no longer required, we encourage staff to register them on Warp It. By investing long-term in this type of carbon-cutting approach, we are not only reducing the amount of waste that ends up being disposed, it also has a direct and positive impact on achieving the Council’s Climate Emergency Action Plan of becoming a carbon neutral council by 2030.” Read more.

Effortless and efficient for members

Members list their surplus items, which are then available for others to repurpose or share. This ease of use has made Warp It a key tool for organisations seeking to streamline operations while staying aligned with sustainability goals.

Zoe Pegg, Environmental Management Assistant at The University of Salford, said: “I work with the managers across the university’s departments and coordinate items for reuse. The response has been fantastic, with staff claiming everything from cupboards to coat hooks and even plant pots for their departments and workspaces.” Read more.

Join the circular economy

By making it easier for organisations to share resources, Warp It is encouraging a more sustainable, cost-effective way of operating.

As the platform continues to grow, its impact is undeniable and shows small changes in how we manage surplus can have a significant impact on both the bottom line and the environment.
