University of Liverpool embraces reuse with Warp It

The NHS is showing incredible leadership and becoming a real international driving force for the reuse movement by embedding reuse of furniture and equipment into policies and practices. 

NHS Trusts are now required to report this process by making a simple change to their reporting structures.

Many Warp It members redistribute items to third parties, and communicating the practicalities is important to ensure a smooth and problem-free experience.

As part of my usual daily call routine I have been speaking to sustainability managers coming back to work after the Easter break. 

Many of them are saying that the David Attenborough, Extinction Rebellion, Climate Emergency declarations are helping them push their sustainability objectives. 

Staff are more engaged, Senior staff are more informed. 

2/3rds of Britons agree the planet is in a climate emergency.

For those who have ever tried to make an organisational change, whether monumental or minuscule, you’ve probably faced the issue that the change you’d like to make is simply not relevant to everyone. At the same time, finding the exact people that you need to target can be incredibly difficult.

Occasionally, you may need to make a claim for something that has been redistributed previously.

Often this is because the items were claimed outside of the Warp It system, or a charity may have turned up on site and taken extra assets that you want to account for. 

When it comes to video marketing, leveraging your workforce is an excellent way to have a powerful impact on other members of the organisation, as well as external partners.

We’ve spoken about this topic in this past, showing how some of our partners have used a staff video to increase participation in reuse, namely by getting senior figures to take part and encourage engagement.

Being a Sustainability Manager is more than just a job, it’s a lifestyle and a mentality.

Sometimes it doesn't even feel like work because you are so absorbed in this mission.

Those who are most successful in this position are the people who understand that delivering sustainability is a part of their character and not just a means of getting paid.

The most successful also understand they cannot do it alone, that sustainability is achieved via collaboration.  Which subsequently means collaborative skills are top of the list. 

In the past being successful has also been about the long game and waiting for the planets to align...but this has to change.
